Perris ground is the whole problem
The soil here expands and contracts through the year. Concrete poured on loose dirt tilts, cracks in random places, and pulls away from the house. Concrete poured on a compacted base with control joints in the right places cracks where we told it to, at the joint, where nobody sees it.
It shows up differently around town. In the newer tracts, Villages of Avalon and Monument Ranch, the pours are additions to builder slabs. In the older streets of Downtown Perris and out in Good Hope, it is usually replacing something poured decades ago that has heaved.

- Layout. Marked on the ground so you see the shape before there is concrete in it.
- Excavate and base. Cut to depth, lay base, compact it.
- Forms. Set and checked for fall, so water runs away from the house and not toward it.
- Pour and finish. Broom, smooth or the finish you picked.
- Control joints. Cut or tooled so the movement cracks at the joint instead of across the face.
- Cure. We tell you when you can walk on it and when you can drive on it.
