What that means for your yard
Chino's zoning code allows artificial turf, but it can count for no more than 30% of the landscape the zone requires. The rest is trees, shrubs and groundcover. We plan the turf, the beds and the drip lines together.
Chino's permit threshold for retaining walls is low: anything 18 inches or taller needs one. Chino's turf replacement rebate does not accept synthetic turf, and any hardscape in the converted area has to be permeable.

Getting there from Perris
We take the 215 north to the 60 west and get off at Mountain Avenue for central Chino and City Hall, about 38 miles and 46 minutes without traffic. For The Preserve we take the 60 to the 15 south, then Ontario Ranch Road and Kimball Avenue, about 38 miles and 50 minutes. It is a longer drive than our Riverside County jobs, so we schedule Chino work in full days.
Questions before you call
How much of my Chino front yard can be artificial grass?
Chino requires a minimum share of the front yard to be landscape: 70% in the RD 1 and RD 2 zones, 60% in RD 4.5 and 50% in RD 8. Artificial turf can count for up to 30% of that required landscape. It has to look like real grass, drain underneath and sit with live plants.
Do I need a permit for a retaining wall in Chino?
Yes, once it is 18 inches tall or more. Chino's building code only exempts retaining walls under 18 inches, and block walls and fences under 3 feet. We include the permit in the quote when the wall needs one.
Does Chino's turf rebate cover artificial grass?
No. Chino's turf replacement program says synthetic turf is not an approved conversion option. The converted area needs three plants per 100 square feet, a stormwater feature and permeable hardscape only. We can plant the rebate area and use turf where you want it.
