2 ft

What that means for your yard

With a 3-foot line for block walls and 2 feet for retaining walls, most garden walls here need a permit. The city's wall standard also wants footings next to a slope set back at least 5 feet to daylight, so we plan that before we dig.

Sidewalks and driveways at grade do not need a building permit, so concrete replacement is simpler. Jurupa Valley has residential-agricultural and light agriculture zones, so we check your zone before laying out a wall.

Questions before you call

How tall can a front yard wall be in Jurupa Valley?

In residential zones, walls and fences top out at 6 feet. Inside the required front yard and street side setbacks, anything above 42 inches has to be open to view, like wrought iron over a block base. We design front walls to that line.

Do I need a permit for a block wall in Jurupa Valley?

Yes, once it is over 3 feet from the top of the footing. The city's garden wall standard says so, and it lists the inspections that follow. We pull the permit and schedule the inspections.

When does a retaining wall need a permit in Jurupa Valley?

Jurupa Valley's building code exempts retaining walls only up to 2 feet from the top of the footing. Anything taller, or any wall holding up a load such as a driveway or a slope, needs a permit. We include it in the quote when it applies.

A great experience from this family-owned business. Janeth provided me with a complete and understandable quote, and Bolivar and his crew completed the job with speed and professionalism. The entire job, not including a couple of rain days, took less than 4 days. They removed a medium-sized tree and a bit over 1,000 sq. ft. of grass in 3 different areas, prepared all 3 areas with base material, installed weed barriers and two large mow curbs around the remaining trees, and installed top-quality artificial turf in all 3 areas. They cleaned up and hauled everything away, leaving my yard looking like a million dollars.

I wanted the lava rock that had been at the side of the house for years removed. Bolivar and Janeth gave me a few different options, and trusting their expertise I went with artificial turf in that area. He also put in drains as well. I am so happy with how it all turned out. They left everything very clean and the attention to detail is superb. I'll definitely be going to them again for the next phase.
