Corona rules at a glance

4 ft
Wall height in the front setbackUp to 5 ft with iron or steel bars over a block base. Smooth precision block is not allowed there.
7 ft
Max wall on side and rear linesMeasured from the higher ground on either side.
2 ft
Retaining wall before a permitMeasured from the top of the footing. A wall holding up a load needs one at any height.
2,500 sq ft
Landscape redo that triggers the water rulesWhen the project needs a permit, plan check or design review.

What that means for your yard

Corona's permit line for retaining walls is 2 feet. On a sloped lot, most terraced planter walls cross it, so we pull the permit and build the footing and drainage to the plans.

Walks and driveways at grade do not need a building permit, so a concrete or paver replacement usually moves fast. The regional SoCal Water$mart turf rebate does not pay for synthetic turf, and it has to be reserved before the lawn comes out.

Getting there from Perris

We take the 74 west out of Perris to the 15 north. South Corona off Foothill Parkway is about 27 miles and 36 minutes. Downtown Corona and City Hall are about 30 miles and 38 minutes. We start Corona jobs early so the crew beats the 15 traffic.

Questions before you call

How tall can a front yard wall be in Corona?

Under Corona's updated code, walls, fences and gates in the front setback of a residential lot can be up to 4 feet. They can go to 5 feet with wrought iron or tubular steel bars, or with bars or spaced panels on top of a masonry base of up to 4 feet. Smooth precision block without a finish like stucco is not allowed in the front setback.

Do I need a permit for a retaining wall in Corona?

Yes, once it is over 2 feet from the top of the footing. Corona's building code also requires a permit at any height when the wall holds up a load such as a driveway or a slope above it. We tell you at the walk-through which walls need one and include the permit in the quote.

Did Corona change its landscape and wall rules in 2026?

Yes. The City Council adopted Ordinance No. 3431 on September 2, 2026. It rewrote Chapter 17.70, the landscaping, fence and wall chapter, and took effect 30 days later. We design to the new version.

A great experience from this family-owned business. Janeth provided me with a complete and understandable quote, and Bolivar and his crew completed the job with speed and professionalism. The entire job, not including a couple of rain days, took less than 4 days. They removed a medium-sized tree and a bit over 1,000 sq. ft. of grass in 3 different areas, prepared all 3 areas with base material, installed weed barriers and two large mow curbs around the remaining trees, and installed top-quality artificial turf in all 3 areas. They cleaned up and hauled everything away, leaving my yard looking like a million dollars.

I wanted the lava rock that had been at the side of the house for years removed. Bolivar and Janeth gave me a few different options, and trusting their expertise I went with artificial turf in that area. He also put in drains as well. I am so happy with how it all turned out. They left everything very clean and the attention to detail is superb. I'll definitely be going to them again for the next phase.
