Two opposite problems, same trench
Irrigation is about getting water to the plants that still need it. Drainage is about getting water away from everything else. In Perris both matter, and both live in the same trench, which is why we do them together.
Even a yard that is going fully to artificial grass needs both: drip for the trees and the beds that stay, and drains so the water that used to soak into a lawn has somewhere to go now that the surface sheds it.
Drainage in a Perris yard
It rains rarely here and then it rains all at once. That is the worst pattern for a yard, because everything is dry and compacted and the water sheets instead of soaking.
Area drains and channel drains at the low points, especially in side yards where two walls funnel water into a corner.
Solid pipe to daylight or to the street, so the water actually leaves instead of moving twenty feet and stopping.
Grading first. Pipe does not fix a yard that falls toward the house.
Downspout tie-ins so roof water is not dumping against the foundation.
The flatter lots around May Farms and Green Valley are where this matters most, because there is nowhere for water to go by gravity alone. One Perris customer had us put drains in when we replaced the lava rock on the side of the house, and that was the part that actually fixed the problem.

Irrigation
Sprinkler systems for the lawn areas that are staying live. Heads matched, zones that make sense, and a controller anyone in the house can actually operate.
Drip for beds, trees and pots. It is the right answer for almost everything that is not lawn here, and it uses a fraction of the water.
Capping and rebuilding. When a yard goes to turf we cap the lines under the covered area and keep the zones that feed the beds and the trees. Old systems in the older Downtown Perris streets usually need the valves found and the controller replaced before anything else makes sense.

Questions before you call
Do I still need irrigation if I get artificial turf?
For the turf, no. For the trees and the beds that stay, yes, and drip is the efficient way to do it. We cap what is under the turf and keep the rest working.
My side yard floods every winter. Can you fix it?
Usually. It is a grading and drainage problem: an area drain at the low point and solid pipe to somewhere the water can actually go. We will show you where it is holding at the walk-through.
Can you find my buried valves?
Yes, that is a normal first step on an old system. Once we know what still works we can tell you what is worth rebuilding.
Can drainage go in after the yard is finished?
It can, but it means opening what you just paid for. Deciding it at the quote, while the trenches are already going to be open, is much cheaper.
