A great experience from this family-owned business. Janeth provided me with a complete and understandable quote, and Bolivar and his crew completed the job with speed and professionalism. The entire job, not including a couple of rain days, took less than 4 days. They removed a medium-sized tree and a bit over 1,000 sq. ft. of grass in 3 different areas, prepared all 3 areas with base material, installed weed barriers and two large mow curbs around the remaining trees, and installed top-quality artificial turf in all 3 areas. They cleaned up and hauled everything away, leaving my yard looking like a million dollars.

Chino Hills rules at a glance
- 4 ft
- Wall or fence in a front yardUp to 6 ft with a minor exception, open above 3 ft.
- 4 ft
- Retaining wall on knolls, ridges and in Carbon CanyonTaller only with a minor variance.
- Step
- Terraced retaining wallsThe gap between walls must be at least the lower wall's height.
- 4 ft / 3 ft
- Wall / retained soil without a permitOnly on gentle slopes, with no load, over 5 ft from the line.
What that means for your yard
On a sloped lot, the plan starts with the walls. Where one wall is not enough, Chino Hills lets us step them, with a level gap at least as wide as the lower wall is tall. The terraces get planted, and every wall gets drainage behind it. See our retaining walls page.
The permit exemption is narrow. A wall holding 3 feet of soil or more, near a property line, or below a driveway or house needs a permit. The city's turf rebate pays up to $2 per square foot through SoCal Water$mart, and synthetic turf is not approved for it.

Getting there from Perris
We take the 215 north to the 60 west all the way to Peyton Drive, then south to the Civic Center, about 43 miles and 54 minutes without traffic. Butterfield Ranch is about 56 minutes. Chino Hills is the far edge of where we work, so we book jobs here as full days and start early to stay ahead of the 60.
