Why the dirt under a swing set stops working
Kids land in the same three spots: under each swing and at the bottom of the slide. Those spots compact harder than the rest of the yard, then turn into a dust bowl in summer and a mud pit in January. Grass never comes back there, and nobody wants to keep hauling in bark chips that blow into the pool.
Turf over a properly built base fixes the mud and the dust. Turf over a shock pad also changes what a fall feels like. Which one you need depends on how high the structure is and how old the kids are, and that is a conversation at the quote.
How we build a play area in Perris

Heat, shade and where the play area should go

It depends on the fall height of the structure and the ages of the kids. A low toddler set on a compacted base and good infill is usually fine. A tall structure with a slide and monkey bars is where a pad earns its cost.
Is it better than bark or wood chips?
It does not blow away, it does not need topping up every year, it does not hide bugs, and it does not track into the house. Bark is cheaper on day one and more expensive every year after.
Can you install turf under a trampoline?
Yes. The main thing is drainage, because water sheets off the mat into the same ring every time it rains.
What if we move the swing set later?
The turf stays. We cut around the legs and anchor the edges, so pulling the structure leaves small anchor points we can patch.
